LAKE ERIE SMALLMOUTH BASS FISHING

Nicknamed "Smallies" or "Jumpers" these fish pound for pound are the hardest fighting fish in the lake. On Lake Erie they are not only plentiful, they are big. Catches average 14 to 17 inches, with many larger fish in the 18 to 20 inch range.
Best fishing methods are drifting or at anchor with tube jigs early in the year and later with live bait, soft craws or bass minnows with a caronlina rig.
Most productive time is from late June through October.
Canadian limit is 6 per person per day.
Ohio season is closed from May 1st to the 3rd Saturday in June.
